Joyber helps older adults find nearby and online activities. Connect with friends, and enjoy meaningful social moments.

Description
Joyber
is a neighborhood-based social discovery app designed to help elderly Chinese immigrants build a sense of presence and connection in their local communities.
By surfacing culturally relevant nearby events and enabling low-barrier participation, Joyber invites older adults to step out, meet others, and reestablish themselves as active members of their environment — one small gathering at a time.
Process
- Interviewed elderly Chinese immigrants to understand barriers to local engagement.
- Identified friction points like language, transportation, and social anxiety.
- Designed an intuitive UI with large icons, simplified categories, and bilingual support.
- Integrated both in-person and virtual events to accommodate different mobility needs.
