Design is largely driven by industry – leaving workers to either organize with tools not made for them (think nurses using google sheets to track union interest but fearing a lack of data privacy) or to not organize at all (consider how remote, siloed, or gig economy jobs lack the infrastructure for workers to build strong relationships with one another). My design practice asks: how might we build capacity for workers to create solidarity and consensus with one another in ways that feel safe and energizing?
Final Presentation Coming in May 2025
Erica Fink (she/her) is a designer/design researcher based in Brooklyn, NY. She’s interested in design as a co-creation process, as a joy, and as a tool to shift systems from harm to nourishment. Erica earned her BA from the University of Virginia in global environmental sustainability and social entrepreneurship. Afterward, she completed a fellowship with COMMON, an accelerator for social entrepreneurs. From there, she joined the startup nonprofit Strongheart – putting into motion the belief that people with lived experience of an issue should be at the center of designing its solutions and policy. Most recently, she worked in Deloitte’s innovation lab facilitating problem solving workshops and as a digital product designer. Erica is a member of Design Advocates in NYC and MFA of The School of Visual Arts.
